Craft Consignment Shop

Frequently Asked Questions

We are a craft consignment shop in downtown Cañon City, Colorado. Local artists, crafters, and makers rent booth and shelf space from us and sell their own original handmade work.

That means our shelves change as our makers create. Every visit brings something new, and the person who made your piece is part of our community.

Open this answer

No. Everything on our shelves is handmade by a local maker. We do not carry antiques, vintage finds, or resale goods of any kind.

Handmade is the whole point of what we do. When you buy here, you are buying something a real person made by hand, often one of only a few that will ever exist.

We keep seasonal hours so our schedule matches the way our community shops through the year. Summer hours run from Memorial Day through Labor Day, and off-season hours run from Labor Day through Memorial Day.

Hours can shift around major holidays and special events. We post current and holiday hours on our website and social media before they take effect.

We are on Main Street in the heart of downtown Cañon City, Colorado, inside a historic building that longtime locals may remember as the Squirrel Away and the Red Beard Swag Shop.

We sit in the walkable downtown shopping district, steps from local coffee shops and lodging. That makes us an easy stop for neighbors and for travelers exploring the Royal Gorge region.

Our sales happen in person at the shop. Our website is here to show you who our makers are and what the shop is like, not to check you out at a cart.

Many of our vendors do sell online on their own, and each vendor under contract has a profile page on our site with links to where else you can find their work.

Yes. Our back room is open for anyone who wants to sit down and create, at no charge. Bring your own supplies and settle in.

Open crafting hours are 2:00 to 5:00, Monday through Saturday. We are not able to offer open crafting on Sundays. The room is also used for scheduled classes and reserved groups, so check our events calendar before you come — we post it there any time open crafting hours change for the day.

Renting is a separate thing, and it applies when you need the room reserved just for your group. Open crafting is simply part of visiting us.

We host art and craft classes for all ages in the classroom at the back of our shop. Classes are built with beginners in mind, so no experience is needed to join one.

Many are taught by the same local makers who sell here, which means you learn from someone who does the work every day. Our events calendar lists what is coming up.

Yes. Our back room is available to rent for classes, workshops, and meetings. Teachers, crafters, small groups, and local organizations all use it.

It can also be reserved outside of regular shopping hours by arrangement. Vendors under contract may use the room at no charge for their own classes and work sessions.

Yes. Birthdays, holiday gatherings, and other celebrations work well in our classroom, and we can help you plan a session around what your group wants to make.

Family groups, scout troops, clubs, and teams are all welcome. Tell us the date and the age range and we will help you pick a project that fits the group.

Yes. We keep a dedicated area of the shop stocked with crafting supplies, so shoppers and makers can pick up what they need in one convenient spot.

It pairs well with our open craft room. You can grab supplies, then sit down in the back and use them the same afternoon.

Yes. We are a family-friendly space where kids and adults can browse, learn, and create together. Our classes are built for all ages, and beginners are always welcome.

Family days, coloring afternoons, and other gatherings are a regular part of what we do. We want a visit here to feel like an experience rather than an errand.

Makers apply online through our vendor application. From there we talk with you about available booth or shelf space, terms, and the kind of work you make.

You are also welcome to stop in first and talk through your options before you commit to anything. We would rather you ask questions than guess.

Yes. Every vendor under contract receives a personal profile page on this website with a bio, photos of their work, and links to where else they sell online.

Most consignment shops stop at a booth. We think your name belongs on the internet too, so new customers can find you long after they leave the shop.

No. We do not take donations and we do not buy inventory to resell. Our shelves are reserved for original handmade work made by our vendors.

If you make something by hand and want to sell it here, the path is our vendor application rather than a drop off. We would love to see what you make.

Rent is due by the third of each month. On the fifth it is considered late, and a late fee is added for each day until the balance is caught up.

You can pay online through your vendor account or in person at the counter by cash, check, debit, or credit. Our rent and late fee policy walks through the whole timeline.

You will hear from us before it becomes a problem. Reminder emails go out ahead of the due date and again once rent is late, and your payment history is always visible in your vendor account.

If we have not heard from you by the fifteenth of the month, the contract is considered terminated. We would much rather work something out. If you are dealing with an illness, an accident, a death in the family, or a serious money problem, tell us early and we will do our best to help.

Vendor payments go out on the fifth of each month, usually by direct deposit to the bank account of your choice. If direct deposit does not work for you, we can talk about another arrangement when you sign your contract.

Your sales are separate from your booth rent. You receive your sales payment, and you pay your rent for the space.

Yes, four hours a month. You greet customers, help them find things, wrap gifts, and pitch in with general tidying. There is always a paid employee working alongside you, so you are never running the shop on your own, and we provide a short customer service video before your first shift.

It is not a paid position and it does not reduce your rent. It keeps you connected to the store, the customers, and the other makers. If your schedule truly will not allow it, you can choose instead to have an additional percentage of your sales go toward the cost of running the store.

At least eighty percent of what you sell must be handmade. This is a handmade shop, and that rule is what keeps it one.

Every item needs to be scanned, labeled, and priced before it goes out. Anything in your booth that is decorative and not for sale should be clearly marked. Items that are valuable, fragile, or not appropriate for children need to be kept in a locked case or placed up at adult eye level.

You choose three months, six months, or twelve months. Your contract runs from its effective date through the last day of the term you picked. If you start partway through a month, we begin counting the term on the first day of the following month and pro-rate that first month of rent.

We ask for thirty days notice if you do not plan to renew. Our getting started policy covers the rest.
